Day 31- The Honor

Today started with a good-bye visit from Nana,Papa & Nenny . Sure gonna miss em. And our great meals together!

Owen was in a much better mood today. He was able to transfer himself with the sliding board both off and back on to bed! And he smiled the whole time. He had swim therapy today and was able to stand and walk in shallow water.

Owen was asked to draw one of his now famous(on the unit) Mario Bros freehand drawings to be framed for his OT's office. Unfortunatly it is to be a going away present as he is switching programs. We will miss him.

So tonight mom had stir fry and was visited by her friend Tanya S. Owen did his drawing while they visited. He did 2 drawings and both were fantastic. He proned 3 times today and ended the night with Duck Dynasty! Of course :)

Day 30- New Horizons

Today was Owen's hardest working day so far. He began the day transferring himself onto his wheelchair from the bed using a transfer board. He did it all by himself! He was grumpy about it but he did it.

Captain Crunch helped him start his day and then off to school. Mom decided to get Nenny sang to for breakfast at Coras. It was awesome! Then we shopped at a Rona Liquidation Store and found an awesome tub chair for Owen.

Everyone returned just in time for Owen's lunch. We visited a bit then Owen headed back to school. Mom took nana,papa and nenny to the atrium for some lunch then we met Owen just in time for pool  therapy. He was awesome in there! He also recieved mail from Cheryl, one of nana's art friends. The Mario and Luigi aceo was so cool! He sure loves the mail he has been getting here.

Unfortunately he had a rougher afternoon since he had to use the slider board wet. It took an hour to shower today but he did it. He even got his shorts off. There was tears but he DID IT!

We then ventured to West Edmonton Mall where we ate at the Spaghetti Factory and Owen got to play at the arcade. We tried our hardest to find a Luigi shirt but no luck.

Owen ended the day with a  hour in prone and watched a bit of Funniest Home Videos. Sure gonna miss the family when they go!

Day 29- Nenny's Birthday

Today started with Owen havin some Captain Crunch.He had school then He had to have an hour lying on his stomach( called the Prone position)

In OT today mom got to watch Owen on the Arm Bike. For lunch he had 2 chicken burgers and then back to school. He went on the tilt table today and got to stand on  both feet. Then he Proned again.

Nana, Papa and Nenny came to visit until Wednesday. We all went for supper to Moxies thanks to Papa and we saw some very interesting entertainment at the bus stop outside. We discovered Nenny and Owen are bad influences on each other by trying to out fake burp each other.

Owen gave Nenny a tour of the unit and then played table hockey until they almost got kicked out (not really). We walked the family to their car and Owen went back into the Prone position. He didn't like it in the evening very much but he did it. He also learned to transfer hisself using a slider board.

Tomorrow is SWIM day .

Day 27 & 28- Awesome night and great sleepin! Spring is HERE!

Day 27- A quiet morning we spent at the hospital awaiting dads arrival. Owen wouldn't eat because he wanted to have supper with him.

When dad arrived we decided to head south to South Common and Ikea for a little window shopping. We had Moxies for lunch and enjoyed eating and basking in 20 degrees on the patio.

After Moxies we headed to the hotel where mom booked us a huge room. It was nice and quiet with 2 tv's. Mom got a great deal through Ronald Mcdonald house since we are still on the wait list. Barb came to visit us and so we had supper with her at the Olive Garden. What a good meal!

Movie night was in order after that. Dad and Owen went to see Ironman 3 at the Imax and Mom and Barb got their scary movie fix by going to see Evil Dead. Mom and Barb headed to Bourbon St. Following their movie to have a drink while they waited for the boys.

We visited at the hotel till nice and late!

Day 28- We woke up to even nicer weather and slept in till 1030.  We had a nice brunch at Smitty's then headed to Princess Auto to kill time. We even visited the Liquidation Supercenter next to it.

Followed by a trip to Tim Hortons for ice caps. We sat on the grass and soaked up some sun. We were running out of entertainment so we took a drive out of the city since mom and Owen had not left the city for 28 days. This affirmed that we could never live in the city  because we felt awesome leaving it!

On our way back we hit the Swiss Chalet. This is becoming our Sunday supper spot. Followed by a quick trip to the grocery store so we could stock up our mini fridge.

Once we returned to the hospital dad helped us unpack then we walked him out. Owen got very sad when his dad went to leave. He wants to go home really badly and so dad gave him the biggest hug. Mom teared up watching him cry. You could see dad was having trouble leaving him tonight.

Owen had a hard time getting it back together tonight so he played wii for a while and ended the night watching a Duck Dynasty marathon. Can not wait till next weekend when we get to go home for 2 nights!

Day 26- Crazy Friday to quiet night

We awakened this morning nice and early to get an xray of Owens left hip! Later we saw Dr. Dick and he gave owen the go ahead to start putting weight on his foot. Owen was thrilled!

We adventured through the tunnels then Owen skipped the morni g hour of school to eat his new favorite....French Toast! We went to the atrium and a little cafe on the third floor called Cravings and had a hotdog and soup for lunch.

Mom got to watch Owen in the pool today. He loves it in there. Mom also got a page on the hospital intercom. It turned out she left her purse in the atrium and security had it. Of course mom didn't wear makeup today and apparently did not look like her ID so security almost didn't give it back.

Mom still got to see lots of pool action too.

We went to Kingsway Mall after and had food court food for supper. We got Owen some Mario Bros. gear and went to the pet store. We even saw them walking a little lizard on a teenie leash.

Wii and movies finished the night tonight. Very quiet as only us and one other family were on the unit for most the night.

Day 25- The Mail Surprise!

Today was packed full of fun. Owen started with school then cooking class for OT today. Turns out his OT helper is Katelyn who just happens to be moms favorite Muscular Dystrophy Canada persons daughter! ( right Terri!) Owen cut tons of tomatoes for salsa with Katelyn then wanted a treat.

We went through the tunnels to Tim Hortons at the food court in the Royal Alexandra Hospital. The food court also happened to have Poutine so we might have indulged a little!

Dad gave us the good news that a new location for his business was secured and then gave mom some work to keep her busy.

Owen stood for 25 minutes in the tilt table today for physiotherapy. He is now a master at Blokus. When he returned there was a surprise package on the table for him. Nana's facebook friend Julie sent gifts from the USA. She has never met Owen but showed her big heart by putting a great big smile on his face with a little blue Yoshi and a fantastic card and t-shirt that totally suited him. He has everything proudly displayed.

After that we went with a special little friend Mason (who is in kindergarten) and his mom for a walk to McDonalds. Mason had emergency surgery due to fluid on his spine. He is doing great now, running and he even chased Owens chair around outside.

When we returned we played with clay again. Owen is getting quite the collection of hand made fun characters. We saw Dr. Watt who said Owen would be getting an xray tomorrow to see if he can ambulate yet. If he can we should get to go home in 3 weeks approximately. Here's to hoping!

Day 24- Bowling night with MD

Owen started the day on his own today and let mom have an early shower after she got him up. It was a very busy day as mom was trying to work out her own issues with her Dr. Office.

After a very rocky start to the day for mom Owen came back from school and cheered her up. The social worker helped mom with the FSCD stuff and then went to bat for mom to help with her problem. Mom was really grateful.

At physiotherapy today Owen stood for 26 minutes. He was feeling a little defiant today and kept bouncing on the tilt table. He ended up bouncing so much he bounced right out of his top velcro. That didn't stop him though. He was so ramped up after PT that he giggled until he cried. Nice to see him that happy!

After that he decided to go to Art Therapy. Top secret as he is not allowed to show mom so mom went to the parent group. Once again parent group was a big help. Seems we are all experiencing similar issues and it was nice to hear that we are normal( as normal as we can be).

At supper the Edmonton Muscular Dystrophy Chapter invited us to Bowling and Pizza and we got to see Terri and Ben. We also got to meet the new person in  charge of services for Alberta. We met a few families we never met before and Owen bowled for the first time in years. So thankful for everything MDC does for us!

When we got back there was a goose and a rabbit on the front lawn of the glenrose and Owen had fun watching them stare at each other.

We finished the night watching Survivor and Duck Dynasty.

On a side note, I have heard a lot about different kids stories here and it humbles me . As much as I tend to feel very tunnel visioned when it comes to our situation, I certainly have a lot to be thankful for!
