Day 45- Just keep swimming

Owen had a lot of fun today amongst the work. He got to play with robotics in OT. He got stuck in the playroom during a fire drill. There are definately worse places to get stuck.

In Physio he had swim therapy. For the first time in a long time he swam the deep end of the pool and back without a floatation device. He was very proud of himself and so was mom.

Mom went to parent group and Owen did shrink art..Pics will follow tomorrow. He really liked shrink art. Bet you can guess what he made lol.

After group mom went with another mom and Owen to Moxies. It was a little windy but we didn't blow away. When we got back we stayed up passed lights out ( which was 7:50pm tonight) just to prove a point lol. What point i am not sure but we did it anyway.

Closed out the night with proning and funniest home videos...

Day 40 -44 The Finks and the Long Weekend Surprise

Owen enjoyed his long weekend. He started by attending Skylers birthday,Antonia's going away party and Justin's farewell. Owen was honored to create the art work the unit framed for Justin's office. He heard Yoshi was his favorite.

We headed home early and had a quick relax before John and Sue came for the weekend. Dad took us for supper but Brayden had to work.

The next day the Finks came to visit with a huge surprise for us. Renee organized a secret steak night back in Saskatchewan to raise money to help make things a little easier. Mom cried. Renee and mom have a very special friendship.

After the big surprise we took the Finks to Jasper and managed to see 3 white goats, several big horn sheep and Elk on the way to Athabasca Falls. The bears only appeared for Owen and Dad. Mom was with the Finks and didn't see the bear.
We had a great dinner then took the Finks to the Maligne Canyon before heading home. What a great day. Renee promises to make the next trip longer. Mom loved hanging out with Olive and Pickles.

The rest of the weekend we spent renovating. Mom snuck in alone time with Brayden and they skipped back to Jasper to watch Ironman 3 and had dinner.

Back to the hospital tuesday to physio where Owen managed 40 steps. yahooo. He found out that because he is making progress his discharge date was moved back to June 14, 2013. Yay for progress and practice.

Owen created more art and was told by the rec therapist all about the projects and entertainment coming up. Should make for some interesting blogs coming up.

DAY 39- STEPPING

What a day full of promise, progress and fun! Owen had cooking class today and they made smores and no bake chocolate peanut butter squares. Owen might have ate a few chocolate chips early lol.

He enjoyed the sun while on the banana cart today. He loves goin for walks while laying on his stomach. The sun was nice and warm today. He also recieved mail from another of nanas artist friends. A beautiful watercolor and 4 ACEO  birds... He loves the surprise mail with such unique gifts inside. Makes him smile everytime!

Mom visited with some awesome ladies on the unit while Owen was in Physio. When he came back he was beaming with delight because he was able to walk 30 steps with the aid of splints and bars today. So fantastic! He was very proud of himself.

Then we headed to the mall with our AWESOME roommate Christian and his mom and auntie. We shopped and the boys fullfilled their mission to gang up on the moms and do their own shopping. Christians auntie bought the boys some mario bros which kept them busy and they loved them! Such an awesome family.

Jane came down to the mall to visit too. She helped shop and visited till we left the mall. She is thinkin of introducing us to the world of Dimsum in the next few weeks.

What a great day! Home for the long weekend tomorrow!

DAY 38- DRY LAND!

DAY 38 - Dry land!

Today Owen got to try walking! Yep walking on dry land. As with many transitions he struggled with fear and anxiety. With leg splints and bars he managed 4 steps! Great progress. He also managed 3 standing transfers with 1 person assisting. So great!

As a reward for hard work mom busted Owen out of the hospital and took him to see the movie The Croods in 3D. Awesome little date however he decided he likes going to the mall in a crowd~especially with nana and papa he says!

He also gets to lose 1 hour of proning out of 3 each day which made him very happy!

He got a hot chocolate from Starbucks on the way back and saw some excitement at the entrance to the Glenrose. 3 Hells Angels on motorcycles were pulled over by a police car and van. Of course we only glanced and kept goin but Owen sure thought the bikes were cool.

Day 36-Day 37

Day 36

Owen was so thankful to not have to be at the hospital until noon. He had a little bit of school then Physiotherapy. He was able to stand with the chest strap off on the tilt table today. The leg straps and tray remained but he supported his weight.

In Occupational Therapy he tried to put his own shorts on. Unfortunately the therapies were too close together and the goal had to be discontinued. We decided to focus on things that took less energy besides standing. He will work on transfers and sitting up in bed.

We went to the mall for supper and then watched Hells Kitchen. The day tuckered us out so it was early to bed.

DAY 37

Today Owen was able to walk with bars in shallow end of the pool. He transfered himself in and out of bed mostly on his own.

One of his friends had a pizza party tonight for her last night as an inpatient. Everyone got pizza and had ice cream sundaes with all the toppings they wanted! Owen turned his into a sundae float with pepsi. Thanks Bella and Bev.

Following that he made clay characters for several hours and spent the rest of the night watching Family Guy. He was weighed today and despite all the steak he has been eating he has only gained 2 pounds.

Day 33-35- Home Visit!

DAY 33- The anticipation of going home for the weekend was high this morning. Mom was packed and ready by 10 am. Owen did his usual routine and is transfering very well on his own using the sliding board.

Pool therapy went very well and he is looking good. He will be trying dry land next week.

At 3:30pm Dad picked us up and got us straight outta the city.
The animals were very happy to see Owen. They surrounded him and hugged him up. Owen was super happy to be home.

Brayden had to work so dad and owen had a boys night and mom headed out with the girls!.

DAY 34- Out and About

We took Owen out to see the Battle of the Dealers and check out toy haulers. Once we ooooo'd and awwww'd we came to the conclusion that our trailer is way to awesome to trade in. Oeen loved seeing the mustangs and camaro's.

Owen helped his parents shop for supplies for the new shop and then we headed home to have an awesome bbq and visit with Barb. We spent the night relaxing. Owen played is xbox which he had been longing to do all day and mom and dad watched Django.

We discovered the bathroom needs to be done ASAP if Owen is to use it properly so now the hunt is on to find someone who can build a roll in shower and renovate the bathroom but with his dad he was able to function through it.

DAY 35- Last day home

Owen spent his last day helping his dad paint the  new shop. That was an all day event. Then they took mom out for an awesome mothers day supper.

The guys let mom watch the Survivor finale while Owen got his last xbox fix. Owen made sure to pack his mario,Luigi and Yoshi to take back with him. Back to the hospital Monday morning!

Day 32- 30 minutes on tilt table

Owen was a trooper today. While mom dealt with other matters owen went to school and OT. He is transferring himself with minimal help and a sliding board which is awesome!

In OT he made an awesome mothers day bouquet of fruit and cupcakes. Mom was thrilled! In PT he was able to put both feet down today and managed to stand for 30 minutes. Thats great news!

He had to lay in prone position 3 times today for an hour each time. Mom took him outside on the banana cart to enjoy the sun.

For supper today we met up with Terri and Ben. They brought him super stealthy ninja pencils and a sketch book. Owen already drew in it. Moxies was great and shopping was fantastic. Teenage boys are funny when they get together and we really enjoyed their company. We might even get to go to watch wheelchair basketball next week.

Owen ended the day sketching Mario and Luigi but unfortunately ended up with a headache. So it was early to bed and early to sleep. Home tomorrow for some much needed r&r!
